Isla Mujeres- the romantic island where instead of a car it’s much better to drive a golf cart. I’m sold. Let’s go!
Since I have not worked in my company for long enough I have only one day off a week. It would be much better to spend a whole day on the island instead of wasting half the day traveling there and back. So we went there in the evening, spent the night and enjoyed the whole next day on the island. It’s a really short ferry ride from Cancun, felt like just 15 minutes and that’s it. The ferry was like a disco ferry with constant flashing colorful lights.
We booked a room in a nice little hotel there that even had a small pool and everything you need. Plus it was close to the ferry. During our first night, it was quite late already, so we looked for a spot for dinner and drinks first. We strolled around through those streets to see what they are offering and finally settled on one restaurant with nice live music. The rest of the evening we spent on the beach watching the stars.
First thing in the morning we needed to get ourselves a nice golf cart. Cheaper one but as long as we can roll around it’s all good. We got a nice Bud Light promoted blue baby for us. You can literally drive through the whole island in about one hour more or less. Of course, we did not want to do that and instead make super picturesque stops, stops for beers, food and, swimming.
The ferry and our hotel are on the north end of Isla Mujeres so we headed south first and made some photo stops on the way until we reached the very south- Punta Sur. You need to pay a little entrance fee to walk all the way to the end. The views were amazing plus you can see Cancun from there. Especially the color of the water was just absolutely wonderful. It was a good spot to also take out the drone and have a little areal view of the island.
After that, we continued driving back north. Our Bud Light branded golf cart was not the fastest, but it was cute and fun to drive. We made another stop somewhat in the middle of the island for lunch and beach break. Some locals told us that there is a possibility to see nurse sharks when snorkeling off the shore so we thought we’d check it out. Unfortunately, we did not see any nurse sharks. I literally just saw one fish only. Well… better luck next time. It was nice and refreshing no matter what.
Once we’ve seen the south point of Isla Mujeres, we also needed to see the very north. We gave back our fancy ride and walked to the end. The beach there was gorgeous with really nice glistening shallow water. We ended the day with beers, good music and a romantic sunset on the beach. Perfect day!
