“To love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance.” Sometimes, especially in the summer, i bike to work and back home. It’s quite an exercise. Takes me about forty-five minutes one way. And when it is windy you need extra muscle work to desperately move on at a snail’s pace. I should have nice athletic legs by now… Despite that, when biking along the canals the view is wonderful. Finally, i took my camera with me and captured some of the romantic sides of Amsterdam.
“The flower in the vase smiles, but no longer laughs.” Already last year i wanted to visit Keukenhof, but could not make it. This year I took the chance together with my friend to visit on one of the few sunny weeks in April. When you want to visit Keukenhof, you have to plan your visit quite carefully to catch the perfect time, while most of the flowers are blooming and possibly when the weather is good. The only problem is that it will be crowded. As i searched for tips on the internet before going, many suggested booking the tickets in advance to avoid any queues. We did not manage so, but luckily we did not have to wait in any queues. The buses going there were very frequent. We bought a package deal ticket at Schiphol, which includes the entry to Keukenhof and transportation back and forth. I did see people standing in a line, though, at the ticket office at the Keukenhof main entrance. Enough chit chat, now i will shower you with tonnes of flower pictures. If only i could transmit the smell. […]
Wtf did i just do 😝😝 A post shared by Agnes Aasmaa (@agnesaasmaa) on Oct 19, 2014 at 2:53pm PDT I always thought i have the fear of heights and when i saw those crazy people bungee jumping or riding those insane amusement rides i was already shivering. Sometimes my legs start shaking when i am climbing narrow stairs without any support and nowhere to hold on to. I feel like i might slip and fall. Because of that, i never went on any rides at the amusement park since i was a little kid. Now i took the courage to try out something that some call slow but still goes very high up. I am actually not afraid of ferrous wheel’s like the London Eye, not at all, but anything slightly faster with only a buckle up the belt on me, makes my heart beat fast. Still i wanted to test my courage and went on a very easy ride and found out that i have no feat at all. I was so happy about it and decided to level up and tried a much faster and crazier ride, where again i found out […]
“Bad times have a scientific value. These are occasions a good learner would not miss.” The Netherlands has brought me back to my school and work schedule. School has given me the opportunity to practice my non-existing photography skills. Since I bought a new camera I have discovered that it is quite challenging to make a good picture, especially with darkness, shadows, moving objects etc. Additionally, I have a million (okay not literally one million) functions on my camera. Now my school has assigned us to create a guide book for a certain district in Amsterdam and our group got the Pipe (De Pijp) district. We have to discover the area, come up with a theme for an excursion there, create a guide book for the area and also interview the local people, stakeholders, make pictures and a video. Thus, i would like to share some amateur pictures of that area and few pictures of other places too. The Amstel river Trust. Our group found a restaurant with an interesting concept, where i haven’t had the chance to eat yet. In the end of the meal you will pay as much as you think the […]
“Dwell on the beauty of life. Watch the stars, and see yourself running with them.” And summer has begun! I am a little bit confused what to do this summer since i will be staying most of the time in the Netherlands. Every other summer i have been spending travelling and the summers are always very busy times for me. It feels kinda weird when i am not travelling, but i am planning to visit my sweet home country. Since i still don’t have many pictures on my blog at the moment, i will post some new pictures of the beautiful Amsterdam here to make it more colourful. Birthday ! View from my place. Zaandam.
I guess if you have been living in Amsterdam for a while, you have seen it all. I now started working in a different shop but for the same company and that shop is not located in the red light district, but still near to the area, kind of on the border, and also near to gay bars. Only in Amsterdam, it can happen that porn stars from Spain visit your shop or that a drunk girl kindly shows her boobs. We have a fun face red light window in the shop for tourists to make pictures of themselves behind the window and one drunk British girl decided to do it properly by exposing her breasts for the photo. It’s been ages again when i last wrote and now i need to refresh my memory about all the things that have been going on. The best thing was visiting home after more than one year. It was also one of the saddest because i was home only for a week to say hi and bye. After being away from home for such a long time i need more time to spend with the loved ones. […]
“Because I will recklessly abandon all insecurities and expose my true self to the world. I will become immune to the impact of your opinion and stand naked in a crowd of ideas; comfortable in knowing that while you married the mundane I explored the exceptional.” Author unknown. Amsterdam is an odd city. In a good way. There is so much interesting surrounding you every day. I find most European cities overall quite similar but each having its unique selling points. Now that i have lived in Amsterdam a little more than two years i have learned to know this city quite well, we have become friends and i can call it my second home. Observing people is already so educating, especially when there are so many different nationalities. I wish more people would pay attention to other people, what they are actually saying, their behaviour, why they do the things the way they do them and try to understand them instead of valuing speaking. I started school again, which is really easy at the moment. I have to go to school three times a week and have one lecture per day, plus few meetings […]
Five more days till my new adventure starts. During this whole two years, i have learned so much about myself, the world, different people, different lifestyles, food, customs and so many countless things that i would never have learned in school back in Estonia. I have experienced so many new things that have made me much more open-minded and broadened my horizons. I don’t regret at all coming to study here in the Netherlands and i recommend to everybody, who could have the chance, to at least spend one year abroad. Of course, everything is nor perfect. For example at home if i need something i know where to go to get it. One day i was looking for gift bags and went through five different shops that to me seemed logical to sell gift bags but none of them sold gift bags. At home, i would no directly to which shop to go. Also, it is much more convenient to go to a doctor at home. Nevertheless, I’m very happy. Meanwhile, the weather in Amsterdam has been very good. Too hot even. Finally, i have been able to enjoy summer properly by going to […]
This has been hardest exam period ever. The winter has been so long that the only thing in my mind is vacation and summer. Unfortunately, the weather here in the Netherlands is horrible and there is no chance to enjoy summer. That forced me to stay home and study. And now finally the exam period is over, though i have some re-sits in July. For me, it is impossible to pass all seven exams during two weeks and for some of them, you maybe had only one day to prepare, if even that. Plus i was not motivated and i rather go outside even if it rains and the wind will blow my brains out. Luckily there have been some sunny warm days. Maybe one during a whole week and during that day you must go out no matter what otherwise you’re going to miss it and you never know when the next nice sunny day will arrive. If it even will arrive. One day i went out in a park in Amsterdam, park Frankendael to test the fifteen euro boats we (my boyfriend and a friend) just bought. It’s not allowed t float with […]
30th April is the Queen’s Day or shall we call it the King’s Day from now on. Queen Beatrix gave the throne to her son Willem-Alexander. The Dutch people were celebrating on the street but unluckily I had to work. I cannot share many stories of the special day this time, but for sure it was drunken orange fun as usual. Picture from : partywithalocal blog Cocktails are just my absolute favourites and lately i have been drinking mostly cocktails when going out. At first, I did not find many cocktail bars in Amsterdam, but by now I have dug out quite a few with a rich cocktail menu. On the 1st of May, the Netherlands celebrates the International Workers Day. I was having a delicious dinner when suddenly the waiter turned the television on to show how crowded the Dam Square is. The crowd was getting ready for 2 minutes of silence starting from exactly eight o’clock. So when the clock turned eight the whole country turned silent. Nobody in the restaurant moved or made a sound , the cooks and waitresses stopped working for a moment till 2 minutes were over. I went […]
